October is a special month for the escape room community. On October 1, we celebrated World Escape Room Day, and now it’s time for one of the industry’s most important annual events: TERPECA 2026 nominations are officially open!

The Slovenian Escape Room Association (GIZ ER.SI) invites all escape room enthusiasts, experienced players, creators, owners, and fellow industry professionals to get involved!

If you meet the eligibility requirements, register as a nominator or voter! We need more active Slovenian voices in this international selection process.

TERPECA (Top Escape Rooms Project Enthusiasts’ Choice Award) is an international project dedicated to recognising the world’s best escape room experiences, based on the opinions and experiences of passionate players from around the globe.

Within our industry, TERPECA is often referred to as the Oscars of the escape room world.

Unlike many other awards, the best games aren’t selected by a traditional panel of industry experts. Instead, the rankings are determined by a global community of verified, experienced players, many of whom have played hundreds or even thousands of escape rooms.

That’s why a TERPECA nomination or ranking represents much more than a place on a list.

It brings international recognition, credibility, and recommendations from some of the world’s most experienced players.

Top-ranked escape rooms attract visitors from around the globe, with dedicated enthusiasts willing to travel hundreds or even thousands of kilometres just to experience an extraordinary game.

World-class escape rooms are increasingly becoming a reason to visit a destination in their own right.

Slovenia may be a small country, but we have an incredibly creative escape room community.

Our creators develop original games, compelling stories, innovative puzzles, impressive sets, and increasingly sophisticated immersive experiences.

However, when it comes to international awards, we face a particular challenge.

Slovenia receives far fewer visits from international nominators than major escape room destinations such as Athens, Madrid, Barcelona, or some of the larger cities in Belgium and the Netherlands.

As a result, Slovenian escape rooms have fewer opportunities to be experienced by the players who participate in the nomination process.

And this is exactly why greater involvement from our own community matters!

More Slovenian players participating in TERPECA means:

• More diverse experiences and perspectives contributing to the international selection process.
• A stronger Slovenian presence within the global escape room community.
• Better connections with international players, creators, and organisers.
• Greater visibility for Slovenia as an escape room destination, potentially attracting more international visitors in the long term.
• More knowledge and inspiration that we can bring back to help develop our local industry.

Of course, having more Slovenian participants does not automatically guarantee more nominations or better rankings for Slovenian games.

What it does mean is that more experienced players with different perspectives can contribute to the international selection process, while our community becomes more connected with the wider escape room world.

Whenever a Slovenian escape room receives international recognition, it’s great news for our entire industry!

If you’ve played at least 200 different escape rooms, you may be eligible to register as an official TERPECA nominator.

Nominators can put forward games they genuinely believe deserve recognition among the world’s best, based on their personal experiences.

This is an important responsibility, as their nominations determine which games can advance to the next stage of the selection process.

Naturally, strict independence rules apply: nominators cannot nominate games with which they have a personal or professional connection, for example as an owner, employee, designer, or collaborator.

That’s why our invitation is about supporting quality and independent recognition, not collecting nominations for particular businesses.

If you’ve experienced truly outstanding escape rooms, travelled extensively, and explored the international escape room scene, this is your opportunity to share your knowledge with the global community!

To participate in the voting stage, you need to have played at least 100 different escape rooms.

During November, eligible voters rank the nominated games they have personally experienced, helping determine the final world rankings.
Conflict-of-interest rules also apply to voting.

Every vote should reflect genuine personal experience, and it’s precisely this diversity of opinions and independence that gives TERPECA its credibility.
